Biology, Statistics

I am currently an assistant professor of global public health, where I teach courses in applied biostatistics, epidemiology, and global environmental health. I received my master’s and doctoral degrees in public health from Saint Louis University. where I studied the epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases. I have been teaching university courses for over five years at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I especially enjoy distilling complex topics into more simple forms, dispelling the idea that statistics is scary, and sharing my passion with science through teaching.

Hi! My name is Ravi and I'm sophomore at UC Berkeley studying Applied Math. I've been tutoring math since early high school and I love helping students reach 'aha' moments when working on tough problems. Math

Although a San Francisco native, I actually grew up in Olympia, WA. Immediately following high school, I was placed in basic math classes at community college. I then gradually advanced through math, and eventually earned a BS in math from the Evergreen State College. I began professionally tutoring math at community college (9 months) and continued doing so at Evergreen (9 months), all the while tutoring free-lance. Teaching and tutoring is helping, and helping feels good. Along the way, I have found that the best teachers are the ones who love the subject. I love math. In my free time I enjoy skateboarding, creating art, and reading.

Business, Statistics

I graduated with a double major in Management and Accounting. Post college, I self-studied and passed the California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and I have continued my education to keep my license active. I am currently in a graduate program through the San Jose State Lucas School of Business working towards a Master’s of Science in Transportation Management degree. Throughout college I tutored other students and after graduating eventually went on to teach Accounting II for a few semesters as an adjunct professor at a private university. Being a former teacher, I know that not all students learn the same in a classroom. I enjoy being able to work individually with students to grasp difficult concepts and achieve their academic goals.

Chemistry, Physics

Hello! I currently a student at UC Berkeley finishing my second degree in Physics, the first being Astrophysics. If you have any questions on anything spacey from stars to black holes to dark matter, I’m your guy! My hobbies include making and playing board games/table top games and watching programs I code fail because I’m not a comp sci major. I have tutored for one solid year before Berkeley and off and on by request during my time as an undergrad. From the moment in high school when a stranger asked me while I was eating lunch on the city bus how I learned to use the chopsticks, then seeing him genuinely interested as I was showing him how, I knew I wanted to be a teacher/tutor. There is nothing like seeing someone understand something for the first time, the vague glimpse of a nebulous concept suddenly turning into clear sight. Can’t wait until you can experience it yourself!

Computer Science, Math, Physics

I am a recent graduate from Cogswell Polytechnical College. I have a Bachelors of Science in Digital Arts Engineering, which gave me exposure to a wide variety of disciplines, including Computer Science and Technical Art. I've embraced the CS side of my major, and enjoy tutoring that as well as math and Physics. I got started as a tutor back at my community college, tutoring algebra. When I transferred, there was a need for math tutors, and I had just finished Calc 1. As I became a senior, a lot of the other tutors graduated, so I stretched my classes to Physics and Computer Science to fill the demand. Tutoring is great for me because it's my way of giving back to the community and paying it forward. Because there were times when I needed a helping hand, I don't want anyone to have to go without that. I've done a lot of odd jobs, but none of them are as fulfilling as tutoring is for me.

Economics, Foreign Language

I am currently a student at UC Berkeley working toward a PhD in Health Policy. I received my master’s degree in Applied Economics from Cornell University in 2019 and a BA in Economics from Denison University in 2016. I’ve been tutoring for over five years and spent the past two years TAing classes in economics and business at Cornell. I’m the rare PhD student who actually enjoys teaching even more than research, largely because of the opportunity to see my students improve and (hopefully!) foster the same kind of passion for economics and German that I have. For instance, at Cornell I created and taught a high school class on the wonders of Behavioral Economics to finally get people as interested in the subject as I am. At Denison, I voluntarily taught an English as a Second Language Class and served as a tutor or TA for all sorts of Economics (including the dreaded Econometrics!) and German classes. I have also taught GED classes to adult students interested in furthering their education, so I have experience with all kinds of learners. I can help with AP Economics, Macro- or Microeconomics, and have a bit of an alarming interest in German grammar.

Biology, Chemistry, Math, Test Prep

Hi there! I am currently a premed student at the University of California, Berkeley, and am pursuing a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology (Genetics, Genomics, and Development). I have experience tutoring middle school students in science and mathematics, and have also spent many years teaching children and adults to ride horses. Though of course horseback riding is a far cry from math or chemistry, the idea behind the teaching is the same — to help students experience the satisfaction of understanding something they previously found difficult, to guide them in developing the skills needed to tackle new problems, and, most importantly, to build their confidence in their own abilities.

Biology, Chemistry

I am a Junior Specialist at Dr. Schjerven’s UCSF Immunology Lab and a recent graduate of UC Davis with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. I am very passionate about scientific research and my ultimate goal is to pursue a PhD in Microbiology. For the past 2 years I tutored biology, chemistry and physics to undergraduate students for the UC Davis Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers (formerly known as the Student Academic Success Center). Through this experience I cultivated the ability to teach by asking questions, encouraging stressed students, troubleshooting for errors and sharing my passion for science. As a tutor my goal is to help students work hard, believe in their own abilities, and enjoy academics to facilitate future achievements in scientific fields.

Chemistry, Foreign Language, Math, Test Prep

I’ve been a tutor at High Performance Tutoring for over five years now, and I feel very fortunate that I found an occupation that lets me make a difference in the lives of others, and that also promotes my own personal growth. Over the years, I’ve acquired the skills to tutor many topics, such as math, physics, chemistry, and German. Having spent most of my life in Germany and now about a decade in the U.S., I have a heightened awareness of how different cultures and pedagogic philosophies yield different outcomes in students. For example, German culture values executive functioning skills such as discipline very highly, whereas American culture puts an emphasis on individualist and creative thinking (both are cliches, and both are true in my experience). I therefore try to be eclectic and combine the positive aspects of both cultures in my teaching style. I look forward to my tutoring sessions every day, because helping students traverse the gap that separates ignorance from knowledge is a joy and a privilege, every time. Other things I enjoy doing are traveling, hiking, running, mountain biking and—less wholesomely— drinking loads of coffee while reading up on the political news of the day. In 2015 I completed High Performance Tutoring's ACT/SAT Prep Certification and have helped many students dramatically improve their standardized test scores.
